Behind the Scene: the Making of JOY II
I led this project (a sequel of A Joy Story: Joy and Heron) with a 40-day deadline that would normally take 3-6 months. Midway through, the client requested a special visual effect that our existing render couldn’t support. With only a fraction of the time remaining, I made the risky decision to switch to Octane Render. In just two days, I personally restructured the pipeline and got everything up and running.
To manage the transition, I worked closely with my team, providing hands-on guidance and quick training to help them adapt to the new workflow. We held daily check-ins to address any issues immediately, and I focused on keeping morale high by staying transparent about the challenges. Despite the constant hurdles, we stayed focused and completed the project on time. The client was so impressed that they held a premiere event, which was a first for me. This experience reminded me of the power of clear communication, decisive leadership, and creating an environment where the team feels supported during intense situations.
